Tesla Robotaxis Now Driving Without Safety Drivers in the United States
Tesla has commenced testing its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, deploying driverless Model Y vehicles without safety drivers on public roads. CEO Elon Musk announced that these tests have been incident-free and are occurring ahead of the planned June 12, 2025, launch. The initial rollout will feature a limited fleet of 10–20 vehicles, with plans to expand to 1,000 units in the coming months. However, the initiative faces regulatory scrutiny, particularly concerning safety protocols and the handling of adverse weather conditions.
